VR members light up the stage in Annual S.M.A.R.T.S Talent Show

Performing in front of a packed house, the members of S.M.A.R.T.S. showed off their singing and dancing skills in this year’s annual talent show. This year’s performances showcased an eclectic assembly of musical numbers, ranging from Journey to New Kids on the Block to Carley Rae Jepsen.

This year’s show was hosted by the very charismatic Lisa, who proved she could do more than just MC, when she took to the dance floor accompanied by fellow VR member, Ben. Duet dances seemed to be popular as Ben also partnered up with Cheryl and Tracey in two other dance numbers, while Michelle and LJ swayed away to “Play My Song,” by Austin & Ally.

Members of VR also showed off their singing voices, belting away tunes, such as Alterek, alongside Dara, in his rendition of the Michael Jackson classic, “Beat It.” Other performances included, Aisha singing “Happy” and Jeannette performing “Crazy” by Aerosmith.

With the tunes playing away, the crowd was also treated to two instrument renditions, one an original number by AJ on harmonica and the other a piano and vocal performance of John Lennon’s famous song “Imagine” by SJOGCS volunteer Marvin.

S.M.A.R.T.S, which stands for Self-Advocacy Members Are Ready To Speak, is an in-agency group that was formed by the Vocational Rehabilitation members for close to 20 years. All funds raised from the annual talent show go directly to S.MA.R.T.S two yearly events, which include the annual talent show and the holiday party.

As always, SJOGCS would like to thank all those who made the talent show possible, including Carl “The Rocking DJ” Danato who donates his time every year to serve as the DJ for the talent show.
