Archbishop Damiano School will continue to provide remote instructions and therapies thorugh the end of the school year on Tuesday, June 16, 2020. The Extended School Year Program (ESY) will begin on Monday, July 6, 2020. At this point, we do not know if we will be returning to school as normal, or continue providing remote educational and related services. Please be assured that are planning for three contingencies: school reopens with enhanced health and safety measures, remote learning continues, or a hybrid of in-school and remote learning. Ultimately it is up to Governor Murphy to decide what is best for all who live and work in New Jersey.
PREPARING TO RETURNING TO SCHOOL (5/28/20)
As of today the decision when and how schools re-open rests with the Governor and his task force. However, the one certainty is that school will eventually re-open. To prepare for that day, Archbishop Damiano School formed a work group to identify develop a comprehensive plan to minimize the risk of Covid-19 infection when staff and students do return. In order to help us plan, a survey will be sent out shortly to ask for parent feedback about what are parents' concerns regarding the safe return to school. That feedback will be invaluable in helping us development the best plan possible.
Below you will see resources which will help students when they return to school. Some of these resources will be part of each classroom's remote instruction. Some resources you may want to use at home. Some resources are for increasing awareness of Covid-19. The ADS work group is in the final stages of developing a video to help our students understand what school will look like and what they can expect when they return to school. The video will be posted shortly.

During the Covid-19 closing, teachers, therapists and assistants will be working from home during normal business hours 8:30 - 4:00, Monday - Friday. Most days the Principal is in her school office. Other administrative staff will be working from home, but may be in school if there is a need.
Following the recommendation from the New Jersey Department of Education, we will begin taking attendance the week of March 23, 2020. The classroom assistant responsible for attendance will be calling/e-mailing daily. Beginning marked "present" will involve someone at home responding to the assistant's call/e-mail.
Therapists have been asked to reach out to families at least once a week, more or less frequently if requested, via e-mail and/or phone. They may be calling from their home/cell phones. To preserve privacy, therapists may choose to block their private numbers from caller ID. Therapists will be asked to e-mail ahead of a caller ID blocked phone call.
Archbishop Damiano School as resumed reporting Special Education Medicaid Initiative (SEMI) to our sending school districts. In order to help the districts recoup special education costs, ADS is attempting to make sure that remote therapy sessions comply with pre-pandemic guidelines in order for services to be billable under Medicaid. Therapists make every effort tot conduct real-time video therapy sessions. When real-time is not possible, therapists will be reaching out to parent to get performance information.
